Radlett Festival Village Fayre 2009 - A Miracle!

It seemed like our worst possible nightmare - after months of planning and preparation we were woken by thunderstorms and torrential rain on the morning of Sunday 7 June. The day of the annual Radlett Festival Village Fayre!

But, around 10 am a blue patch of sky appeared and the weather changed dramatically. It was dry. It was warm. It was even sunny for part of the day. And it lasted until after 6 pm by which time it was all over and everyone had packed up and gone. A miracle as many people commented!

Once again the Scarecrow competition was a highlight of the Fayre, along with the appearance of Elvis Shmelvis as an opening and closing act.

But the undoubted biggest hit of the day was the Jive Ponies who held the large crowd spellbound as they performed acrobatics on their ponies.

Our thanks to everyone who braved the early bad weather to help set up the stalls and all the people who turned out to the Fayre in the afternoon making it once again a huge success!

Cheese & Wine Party - Free!

The Radlett Festival Committee has arranged a Cheese & Wine Party starting at 8 pm on Wednesday 24 September 2008 at the Radlett Centre. We have invited as many people involved in local organisations as we can but please come along if you are interested in helping with future Festivals in any way. We are looking for more help in arranging all the events and stalls etc as well as widening the participation to anyone who has not been involved before.

We'll see you there!

Radlett Festival Funds

The 2008 Festival raised over £7,500 for local good causes. £1,200 has already been donated to the Watford Peace Hospice for a new Hospice-at-Home Service to enable people to receive hospice care in the comfort of their own home.

We are now seeking applications from local organisations based in the Parish of Aldenham who feel they or their members could benefit from a grant from the Festival funds. Application forms can be obtained from the Parish Council or you can contact Viv Charrett by email (viv at charrett.com). Applications must be submitted by 21 October 2008 please.

Radlett Festival 2009 - Provisional Date

A provisional date has been agreed for the Radlett Festival 2009. So please put Sunday 7 June 2009 in your diaries now!

Radlett Festival 2008 - What a weekend!

The 2008 Radlett Festival was bigger and better than ever by common consent. The weather in the days leading up to the weekend of 7/8 June was very changable with a lot of rain and there were concerns that the Phillimore Recreation Grounds might be too wet for the event. But the rain stayed away during the Friday and Saturday as the stage was being built and Saturday evening's concert went ahead in overcast skies. Unfortunately, fewer people than expected turned up for the concert - probably because of the weather - but those that did come were treated to an evening of open air entertainment to accompany their picnics and burgers from the BBQ. The picture shows the Radlett Light Opera Society on the stage.

But Sunday dawned well. It was already over 16 degrees at 8 am and the day was one of the hottest this year with sunshine all the way. So the crowds came, estimated at well over 4,000 people (not bad in a community of 9,000 people!) and had an enjoyable time spending their money, all of which will be going to local good causes. Afterwards it was clear that every stall had done extremely well in raising money for their local organisations and societies so many thanks to everyone who helped and we look forward to seeing you all next year!
