Festival 2010 Report

The Radlett Festival this year went with a swing as the weekend of 12/13th June has good weather and a good turnout of residents. The concert on Saturday night unfortunately coincided with England’s first game in the World Cup, so we lost a few potential concert-goers there, but was a very enjoyable evening including a choir from our potential Hungarian twin town, Dunaharaszti, near Budapest.

Sunday dawned fair and the sun shone on Radlett again for a great turn out of residents and friends for the traditional Village Fair. The MAD mountain Bike display team were extremely popular and we were royally entertained by Ian Scott, as Tom Jones during the afternoon. A new venture for the Fair was the Soap Box Derby, organised by Sandra and Graham Taylor, which was very popular and definitely worth repeating another year. The top raffle prize of a trip to New York was won by the Zonneveld family and we look forward to reading about their trip later!

The Festival weekend raised around £4000 for local good causes, of which we donated £1000 from the concert proceeds to the Peace Hospice in Watford.

The Radlett Festival this year will be a weekend of activities. An outdoor concert on the Saturday evening and the Fair on Sunday afternoon.

Picnic in the Park – A Magical Musical Evening with a Hint of Old Time Music Hall!

Gates open at 5.30 pm to allow you to get your picnics underway, with the musical programme commencing at 6.30pm. We anticipate that the concert will close around 9.30pm before it gets too dark to pack up your picnic. Our performers include our local award-winning ladies barbershop quartet NoteOrious, the ever popular St Albans Brass Band, the Com.unity Choir, a young people’s choir from our new Twin Town Dunaharaszti in Hungary and Dhol Drums from Park High School in Stanmore.

Our compére for the evening will be Ian Sutherland, and Stage Manager Philip Eastburn, both of Radlett Players. There will be a licensed bar (also providing hot coffee!) on the field as well as a barbecue from DP Clarke, the butcher.

We have been given some amazing raffle prizes, specifically for this concert evening, including a Gourmet lunch for 4 people aboard a Crystal Cruises Luxury Ship with first class rail travel , plus a £1000 voucher for use on a future booking with Crystal Cruises, courtesy of Crystal Cruises and Beaver Travel. There are also several other great prizes, including the use of a box at the Albert Hall during the Proms season, Meat Voucher from DP Clarke, a meal at Lagar Portuguese restaurant, bottles of wine and a hanging basket from Roundbush Nurseries. So please buy raffle tickets at the event as 50% of the proceeds of the evening will be donated to the Peace Hospice and the rest to the Festival Funds.

Tickets for the concert cost £8 per person, with under 16s going free. They will be available from the Parish Council Offices.

Village Fair, Sunday afternoon 12.00 to 4.30pm

Our main acts at the Fair this year are the MAD Mountain Bike Display Team, and Ian Scott, a well known Tom Jones tribute artist. The Bike Team have performed recently in India and Bahrain, at corporate events and even at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Ian Scott has performed on Ocean liners and on TV, and been “Tom Jones” in concerts all around the world.

During the afteroon we also have the ever popular Dog Show, a Soap Box Derby, Bungeefly trampolines for the first time here, the Scouts Climbing Palm Tree, the Hare Krishna Ox Cart ride, Funfair, lots of interesting stalls including food and drinks and a licensed bar tent, together with a food court.

We have some more, terrific raffle prizes for the Fair, including a fabulous holiday to New York, courtesy of North America Travel Service and Beaver Travel.
